The tea leaves destined to become ‘Jin Hou’ are plucked in early spring. The first fresh leaf and bud is what makes Golden Monkey special. ‘Jin Hou’ is often made from the larger leaf variety of the tea plant. Once processed. The golden tips of the buds show prominently. The cup is a beautiful dark amber.
The organic teas we import are artisanally farmed and crafted. They may change with each harvest season. The same tea harvested at a different time of year and processed by a different tea maker will vary slightly in flavour and finish.
China has a rich tradition for producing higher quality black teas. Known as red tea in China, the tea leaves for these teas are carefully plucked and then gently processed. The result is an exceptionally fragrant tea, soft with warm, toasty notes and less astringency.
